Our Light Tackle Bottom Fishing At a Glance

Kona has the calmest waters in the state of Hawaii.

We offer family-friendly light tackle bottom fishing (50-200 ft), which is fun because many of the fish are between 2-30 lbs, meaning your entire family can enjoy catching fish! This form of fishing is very interactive, entailing dropping weights to the bottom of the ocean, feeling for nibbles, baiting the hook, and fighting fish.

Guests can look forward to catching species such as Yellow Spot (Papio), Hawaiian Gray Snapper (Uku), Goat Fish (Moano Kea), Weke Nono, Kumu, Jacks, Snappers, and Wrasses. Fishing is conducted using top-of-the-line Penn Battle 3 spin jig rod and reel combos, with 50 lb braided spectra line and 30 lb fluorocarbon leaders, each fitted with two size 14 BKN hooks and an 8 oz weight.

No local fishing licenses are required in Hawaii currently. All catchable and edible fish can be kept; we will scale, gut, or fillet your fish to ensure they’re ready to cook. We’re also eager to share some of our favorite recipes!

While listening to music and relaxing, we drift over seamounts, ledges, and sand patches searching for different species to reel in.

Special Requests

We offer ceremonial ash scattering and other custom ceremony/party requests on all tours. Please specify any special requests in your comments while booking, or feel free to give us a call!

Catch-and-Cook Special

We are proud to have a relationship with the restaurant Holualoa Garden and Kitchen, to give our guests a unique “catch and cook” fishing experience. The chefs prepare your freshly caught Hawaiian fish in the favorite local preparation for you to enjoy. The restaurant is located in the quaint town of Holualoa, only 15 minutes from the harbor.

Visit Holualoa’s website, call (808) 501-1009, or text (307) 461-1450 to check their availability and book a reservation!
